I ate so much food in Italy. So much food. First day we landed at 8am, dropped our luggage at the hotel and were exploring Vatican City by 10am having already stopped by Campo de Fiori. No pictures of us doing that, as we were so jetlagged and tired.
After lunch and a small nap, we headed to the Piazza Navona where we ate the first of many gelatos. There might have been a two-gelato day. I’m not denying it. Since we’ve been home I’ve been in withdrawl. Anyway, this was great. People watching with gelato is fantastic. We did a tour of highlights - Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon.
For dinner we went to a wine bar nearby called Cul de Sac where we overordered to the extreme. Olives and pate, hand formed ravioli for Matt and pesto with fettuccine for me. THEN meatballs and swordfish. The pates were hare, venison with black truffle, and pheasant with black pepper - all were delicious but the black pepper one was so delicious. The pasta was fantastic, but pictures of plates of pasta would become repetitive if I posted all of them. However these meatballs were a cut above. White wine sauce and whipped potatoes. I wish I knew what they did to make it so delicious.
Then back to the hotel with a bottle of wine, some taranelli all’olio, and enjoying our balcony before we went to bed.
I can’t imagine a better way to start vacation.
