102 West 132nd Street
Price: $875,000
Width: 17 feet
Broker: Carolyn Mitchell, Mark David and Company
A freestanding house with a serious sob story: Its owners lost it to foreclosure on the brink of finishing a renovation. “My heart dropped when I walked in,” says Mitchell. “They were so close!” It has an owner’s duplex and two rentals, and needs a few final details finished: One window needs to be reframed. I do love the way the staircase flares out at the bottom.  And I remember when the banks were practically giving these properties away.  Looks like we’re back in that same era, which was the early-to-mid-90’s.
If I had a million bucks to spare, this is exactly the building I’d buy.  Of course, I wouldn’t want the circumstances to be those described above.

I sent this to my husband with the subject line, “big news.” A two bedroom, 900sq ft apartment in the West Village easily costs this much.
